The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club is one of eight properties in the St. Louis and surrounding area that is managed by Walters Golf Management. President of WGM is Dennis Walters, whose involvement in the St. Louis golf industry began in the early 1960's when his father
Charles "Doc" Walters opened Bogey Hills Country Club. The beginning of WGM can be traced back to the 1980's when Walters and his friend Bob Whittaker, then president of Whittaker Homes, developed the Florida-style residential golf community of Whitmoor Country Club.
In 1993, while on a plane returning from vacation, Walters and his friend Jeff Smith, who at the time worked for the PGA, created a proposal for an upscale 18-hole public golf course on a stack of cocktail napkins. Walters, along with his father Dr. Charles Walters, again teamed with Bob Whittaker and his family, and the dream of The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club was underway.
During construction of this Tom Fazio-designed course, the group decided to give a sneak peek of the property to increase the excitement that surrounded its upcoming debut. Six months prior to opening, a three-day preview of the golf course and clubhouse was held. Only expecting to welcome 500 people each day, the excitement level in the golf community was already very high and ultimately more than 7,500 people toured the as yet unopened project.
Upon opening in 1995, The Missouri Bluffs Golf Club was named by Golf Digest the third best public golf course in the country to open that year. This facility is ranked as one of the finest in the Midwest on an annual basis and is a ‘must play' when you are in the area.
